After doing a clean-install of Windows 7 cannot connect to the internet Tech Support

After doing a clean-install of Windows 7 cannot connect to the internet

I had Vista on my laptop then clean-installed Windows 7 ultimate  Previously I had wireless connectivity to the internet but since installing Windows 7 I cannot connect to the internet.  I called our internet provider -Sympatico - and they walked me thru
connecting to the Internet but nothing seemed to work.  They said that I would have to reinstall Windows 7 as something was missing.  They couldn't help me with this as they only do hardware.  I had an IT person do the install for me so I know it was done
correctly.  Is there anything I can do to restore my wireless internet connectivity on my laptop?  Not sure what internet version I have so have selected explore 8 but the IT guy might have upgraded it.
