I have a varying number of names along Row 1 on a worksheet.  There are blank cells to the right of each of these names and data in all those columns.
For example, I might have John C1, and D1, E1, F1 is blank but data in Row 2 down to Row 179.  I need to fill  D1, E1, F1 with John (from C1) and stop there because G1 has another name in it, Alice.  I then need to fill Alice out to the next name, assume
Joan in Q1.  This needs to continue to the last name in the row, and fill that name to the cell in Row 1, until there is no data in Row2.
The number of spaces between these names can vary, or be constant.
Can this be done and if yes, how do I do this.

The problem would appear to be the first blank cell referred to.
You table of sample data appears to have blank cells in A1 and B1 so the first blank cell wasn't D1 and you cannot refer to the cell left of A1 as there is none.

I was envisioning it more like this with row 1 selected.

          

After selecting the blanks,

          

Note that D1 is the left-most blank cell.
Since D1 is the left-most blank cell, we use the formula =C1.
If B1 was the left-most blank cell then we would input =A1.
This will not work if A1 is the left-most blank cell as there is nothing left of A1 to refer
to.
After inputting the formula with Ctrl+Enter.

          

At this point use Copy, Paste Special, Values to remove the formulas if desired.

Machine Throttling

• Click the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "regedit" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Look for the following registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions".
• On the right window pane, delete the subkey: "Machine Throttling".
• Restart your computer.
