How Can You Fix - Delete Browsing History Not Working?

Delete Browsing History Not Working

I have Windows 7 and IE8.  At the end of the day I clean out my browsing history, cookies, etc. or thought I was when using the Delete Browsing History.  Turns out the URL dropdown doesn't clear at all, ever.  I tried deleting each address individually
but in addition to be incredibly time consuming, it doesn't work.  Under the Delete Browsing history I have selected every option except "Preserve Favorites".  I was prepared to go back to IE7 but because I'm running Win7 it appears I can't.  Any suggestions?
