Cannot contact DHCP Server - Networking not working after upgrade from Windows Vista

Folks,
Upgraded my Acer 4736G from Windows Vista to Windows Home premium 7 and was surprised to see how smooth the upgrade process was till i tried to connect on the internet and then Wham!!! 3 days ot reserach and no answers.
Essentially both my Wireless and Wired interfaces have IP address starting with 169.x.x.x.
Have tried everything under the sun and right now am planning a fresh install of Windows 7.
Not sure if Acer screwed up on the driver upgrade or this is good old Microsoft
with its rather in efficient Networking stack/tools.
Serves me right for not stcking to MAC/Linux at home and trying out a Windows laptop at home.

First, run theNetwork troubleshooter
Next, check for the service DHCP Client and DNS Client Services if they are started or not.
a. Click on Start
b. In the start Search box type Services
c. Right Click on - Run as administrator
Check if the below mentioned services has the mentioned status and start up type.
DHCP Client   Started      Automatic\Manual.
DNS Client      Started      Automatic\Manual.
Also, check the dependency services that are required for DHCP Client and DNS Client Service to run.
To check that double click on the service and click on the dependency tab.
If that does not work, uninstall and reinstall the network adapter.
To uninstall drivers follow the steps given below.
 
1. Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
Click Continue.
The Device Manager Dialog box is displayed.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
2. In the list of device types, expand Network Adapters, and then locate the specific device.
3. Right-click the device and then click Properties.

4. Click the Driver tab.
5. Click Uninstall.
While uninstalling select "Delete Driver Software for this Device"
6. Click OK.
Restart the computer, the default drivers would be installed.

Boot in Safe Mode:

• Open Run command as previously described
• Type MSConfig
• Click on Boot tab
• Tick Safe boot in Boot option
• Select Network
• Click Apply and OK
• Reboot your system

Your system will boot in Safe mode with Networking. You may now try and open Windows Store and should not see any errors.
