Cannot execute an exe file in a specific program files subfolder

Hi,

I have a specific application program that connects to the internet to download relevant update files in say c:\program files\abc\temp

I realised that the downloaded files, an executable pksfx extraction file is not able to execute in the folder as given an example above.
My program thus just hang there forever.
I went to command prompt, and manually trigger the exe file and it indicate "Cannot
Execute c:\progra~1\abc\temp\def.exe"

I realised that when I copy this exe file out to another subfolder say "c:\temp" or "c:\program files\def\temp" ...
it is able to execute and extract the files out accordingly.

Can anyone help me here to understand why I am having this problem?

For information
1) I am using Vista Business SP1 32-bit OS
2) I am using SonyVaio
3) I have run the application under "Run Administrator"
4) I have also went further to uninstall and install the application under "Run Administrator"
5) I have also install this application on another drive, outside of "c:\program files"
6) This same application seems to work fine on my friend's notebook - however his is XP.

Boot in Safe Mode:

• Open Run command as previously described
• Type MSConfig
• Click on Boot tab
• Tick Safe boot in Boot option
• Select Network
• Click Apply and OK
• Reboot your system

Your system will boot in Safe mode with Networking. You may now try and open Windows Store and should not see any errors.
