Homegroup and Network Issue

I have windows 7 sp 1 running on both desktop and laptop on my wireless network.  I have always been able to work with files between the 2 machines either through homegroup or the network.  However, something (I don't know what) changed in the last few
days.  When I'm on my desktop, I can see my laptop files in both the homegroup and the network and access them as I always have.  However, on the laptop, I can see my desktop in both the homegroup and the network.  However, when I expand homegroup, it shos
the filders, but nothing happens when I click on them.  In the network section, it keeps prompting me for a user name & password to access the files.  I don't recall ever setting one up.  On both machines in network & sharing center I have file and printer
sharing turned on, file sharing connections using 128 bit encryption, and password protection sharing is off.  I don't know what to do.  I have AT&T Uverse and use the McAfee security center, but I can't figure out what if necessary might need to change in
those settings.  However, this always has worked until just a couple of days ago.

Control Panel - Device Manager - Network

There will be at least two drivers there - NIC (Wired) and WiFi (Wireless).
Check
with the System Maker for updates to those.
If no newer one re-install the same ones.
May not help however it is a necessary task.
How to update the drivers are in the
troubleshooter previously posted.

After that reset up the network.

Using Windows troubleshooter:

• Click on Search on Charm bar and type Troubleshooting. Click on the very first option.
• A new window will open. Click View all from the left pane.
• Scroll down to the bottom and click on Windows update.
• Troubleshooter window for Windows update will pop up. Click on NEXT. It may ask you for administrative permission.
• The troubleshooter will automatically detect problems and fix it.
• Now, close this window and try download/install the app which was previously showing error.
