Tech Support: Can't boot either regularly or in safe mode.

Can't boot either regularly or in safe mode.

I have a virus.
In order to try and remove it I wanted to boot up in Safe Mode.
Unfortunately I did not use the F8 option.
Foolishly, I selected Safeboot w/Network in the boot.ini tab using Run/MSCONFIG.
However, when I boot up, I get a message saying
that Windows is shutting down to prevent any damage.
This occurs every time I try it.
Now, I can't even try to boot up regularly because it always tries to boot up in Safe mode.
(I was able to boot up prior to changing the boot up option in MSCONFIG.)  I
have an XP install CD.
At this point, is there any way for me to successfully boot up without re-installing and risk losing personal data?  Thank you very much!
